Asked

Questions

- How many students do you have?

Currently, we have a total enrollment around 30.

- Why should I consider such a small school?

While it is true that small schools cannot offer as many options as large schools, they can provide things large schools cannot: individual attention, genuine connections with teachers, and a safe, positive environment.

- Won't my children miss out on socialization opportunities?

It depends on what kind of opportunities you are looking for. It's true that we do not offer many extracurriculars or clubs, but it is also true that our students are not stuck in a single-grade peer group. They learn to interact sooner and better with adults and with children older and younger than themselves. This mirrors the socialization found in the family unit and is healthy for a child's development.

- Do you have a sports program?

Unfortunately, we don't currently offer any organized sports. Many of our families put their children into park district or YMCA sports programs to fill this need.

- Does your system really work?

We invite you to come and see that for yourself. You can reach us by phone at 803-781-6970 or email at vbbc@att.net. We are always happy to answer your questions or set up a school tour.

- How can you offer so many grades in a small school?

Currently, our students are divided into three multi-grade classrooms. Within each room, each grade receives grade-specific instruction. We use a unique blend of in-person teaching and teaching from pre-recorded master teachers. These teachers and their students make up a virtual classroom which our students become part of. Students enjoy both types of learning.

- How can you have good academics in a small school?

Being small actually helps with that. We focus on the foundations and do them really well. While a child may struggle, he will never "fall through the cracks" because no one notices. Since all our teachers know all our students, we are able to collaborate effectively on strategies to help a struggling student. Our multi-grade classrooms enable us to customize classes for a student who is behind. The Abeka curriculum, which we use, is a leader in Christian education nationwide.
